Independent Living Sudbury Manitoulin (ILSM) is a community-based cross-disability not-for-profit organization that has promoted inclusion and full participation in the community for people with disabilities since 2002. ILSM believes in a society where people with all disabilities fully participate in every aspect of their communities by applying Independent Living principles. These principles empower individuals with disabilities to explore options, make decisions, and take control of their lives.
We are committed to the Independent Living movement, which encourages the establishment and use of peer-support, self-empowerment, skill development, and community integration by and for persons with any/all disabilities. We are the only cross-disability organization in the Greater Sudbury and Manitoulin region, and offer many programs at our centre.
We have successfully implemented a number of programs for our members: Direct Funding a self-managed attendant care service, a Community Access Lab that provides computer and internet access for our members, Food Program, which provides meals at reasonable prices for participants, as well as the opportunity to be involved in meal preparation, we have an Adaptive Sports Program includes access to many sports throughout Greater Sudbury. We have a new adaptive technologies lab where people can access training on a wide variety of adaptive technologies.
We encourage everyone to come in to our center to see what ILSM can do for you!
